One of my all time favourites
- House of Flying Daggers review by CP Customer
I absolutely adore this film. The cinematography is absolutely spectacular, with fantastic use of colour and light in a wide range of settings. The way movement is captured is entrancing, and so much better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Superb special effects, with scenes which I have found myself repeating as I can never quite believe they are so brilliant. A tale of loyalty and betrayal with a beautiful romantic theme running through it. Makes me cry every time!

Excellent film
- House of Flying Daggers review by CP Customer
This is a visually stunning and surprisingly exciting film. The action is relatively realistic for an Asian film and although the dialogue is a little stilted, the plot has purpose and you realise you do care about the characters. Held me through the whole film.

Wind beneath Mai Wings
- House of Flying Daggers review by Cherry
Not at all what I expected, but there were some incredibly beautiful images presented, and 'Mai' is stunning as a blind ninja. Some of the martial arts moves are somewhat unrealistic, as in The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, but it doesn't seem to matter, the film being something of a mythical tale.

Stunning and vibrant
- House of Flying Daggers review by TB
The cinematography is stunning and vibrant throughout but on top of this the film has a great plot that interweaves with a love story and well delivered twists.
The action scenes are terrific and mesmerising at times and you also buy into each characters emotions and story, while getting taken on a spectacular and beautiful journey of loyalty, betrayal and love.
A truly superb piece of cinema.
Be free like the wind!!

Trite Schlock with No Substance
- House of Flying Daggers review by KS
This movie features excellent cinematography, beautiful sets, and spectacular costume designs all intended to delight the senses. Any pleasures of this film end there.
Unfortunately everything beautiful in this movie is in service of an unspeakably terrible plot, hideously dull characters, and jarring CGI that serves only to further cheapen the already monotonously choreographed fight scenes.
With ludicrous twists at every opportunity I doubt that the writers cared enough to track how any character was motivated beyond the immediate scene. It isn't even that the movie doesn't make sense it's that you couldn't possibly care about anything that is happening because the characters are disinteresting beyond the point of total apathy.
Not to mention the disgusting treatment of women across the movie's putrid final act which further drives this movie into the garbage.
This is pure waste of talent, time, energy, and a disc rental.
Save your rental for something worth watching. There are so many better movies to enjoy in both wuxia and chambara that this should be at the absolute bottom of any "to watch" list.
