I found this film frustrating to watch and a tad on the tedious side. I had high hopes from the ensemble cast and I can't fault either the acting or the direction (I'm usually a fan of David O Russell's work). However, the characters quirks came across all sub-par Wes Anderson and the script just failed to flow and develop. On paper this film should have hit the spot with my sense of humour, but I was rarely amused.
Very funny and unusual film. I wonder how it ever got funded as on paper it must have been hard to sell. The casting and acting are superb and without such good performances the film could have failed. The Writing is sharp. I enjoyed this film a great deal.
I watched this just because I'd heard so much about it and I'm a Wes Anderson fan already. I enjoyed it, but having stopped watching 30 mins before the end I found that I wasn't bothered enough to go back and finish it off - which speaks volumes. With enough long words and weighty cosmic concepts to alienate a fair percentage of the audience I would imagine, and self-consciously 'whacky' in places which made my toes curl. Hmmm. Worth trying it for the novelty value.
