Passengers is a bizarre film from Garcia that refuses to gel together into a cohesive experience. The main characters seem detached from one another and Anne Hathaway is never convincing as a talented therapist. Here she is the same in every other role; either hair up or hair down. There isn't much else inbetween. The twist when it comes is all too apparent and forced. Yes, its a small world but Passengers failed to expand into a worthwhile thriller or a social statement.
I mistakenly ordered this film, meaning to order the one released in 2016. Not sure what to make of this particular film. Anne Hathaway's character was weak and lacked credibility and the early storyline (which, granted, was a bit formulaic) switched to the supernatural. I think I would have preferred the formulaic version with the airline eventually getting its come-uppance. I didn't quite get my head around the ending and was left fairly unsatisfied.
