This is a pretty average "stoners' comedy" which have some funny parts (specially within the first half of the movie) but kind of flat most of the time. An attempt to give an action twist to the end went absolutely wrong. Compared to recent comedies on the same flank (e.g. knocked up)this is probably the weakest.
As a fan of David Gordon Green’s past films I had high hopes for this film, but this really is a stinker. At nearly two hours long there is practically zero comedy and what is attempted at comedy comes off flat and embarrassing to watch, and even the typically good Danny McBride struggles with practically nothing to work with. Green is easily one of the best independent film makers around, usually specialising in deep character driven dramas and has a loyal cult following, and a film which he claims he directed as a ‘favour’ to producer Judd Aptow has backfired spectacularly. It’s obvious he has absolutely no comedic ability as a director which isn’t helped at all by Seth Rodgen’s drivel of a script, which is even worse than ‘Drillbit Taylor’ which Rodgen also wrote. If you like really bad stoner movies then maybe there may be something in this for you, otherwise avoid this turkey. It's like a Harold and Kumar movie minus the comedy and just really, really bad, even for a pothead movie.
Great for teenagers. Like superbad. It is really funny with just moderate violence (I'm told). Seth Rogan was the best actor.
