I watched this after enjoying Quentin Dupieux's recent 'Deerskin Jacket'. Sadly, 'Rubber' is not in the same league, but there is plenty of Dupieux's trademark playfulness and surrealism on display.
He appears to be making some comment on the Hollywood film machine, but it's all too incoherent and whimsical for any real message to get across.
This is a film that could have been much better as a short, maybe 15 minutes long maximum. The central idea (a vengeful, sociopathic rubber car tyre) is fine for a comedy sketch but not for a whole movie.
At least the California desert landscapes are good.
Well I dont' think so. Rubber is a prime example of a Marmite movie, you're either going to like it or loathe it. I like quirky offbeat movies so I fall firmly into the like category. Sure it is totally absurd and I'm sure most people will absolutely hate it, the previous two reviewers certainly did. But even if you are only a slightly bit curious about this film and you like your movies to be.........well different is the best way of putting it, then give this a go, You may be pleasantly surprised.
An absolute travesty of a film, disc could be better used as a coaster for hot drinks than the drivel burned on the disc.
The film tries to be clever and arty in a very french way and just comes across as idiotic,
Avoid at all costs,it is by no means suitable for main stream audiances.
The only plus that now i will double check my auto recommendations before adding to my rental list!!!!!
