Unlike some LGBT movies, this wasn’t just focused on the two lead characters as it also featured and built in the lives of others (parents, siblings, etc) to give the movie a more fuller feel to it and to make it more a film about relationships and family struggles, and not just a gay relationship. The acting by some of the characters wasn’t brilliant, especially the awkward looking father of Miku. However, Miku’s performance was the shining performance and I liked the way the film built to a point of sexual awakening and desire between two ultimately different people. A summer love story or should that be lust story!
Interesting film about the growing up of MIKU who gets dropped in it by his elder brother and is forced to have to spend the summer with his parents at the their country home and where he meets ELIAS. A friendship develops between the two of them but lurking in the background are issues related to ELIAS and the film then handles MIKU's acceptance of them that ultimately leads to telling his parents of his sexuality. Interesting film in parts, at times I felt it was close to losing its way, but the acting of the cast carried it through. Not a classic but watchable.
LGBT ' coming out' movies have progressed mightily from the doom and gloom - 'You'll die in hell' phase. And this movie beautifully illustrates that point. The two leading actors are brilliant in their portrayal of young people coming to realise their sexuality. Their parents react exactly how parents of gay offspring should react when their child confirms their sexuality. And above all- this movie has a very happy ending! No more end of life angst- or hate-fuelled homophobic mob. Cannot recommend this movie too highly. You will mightily enjoy!
