Synopsis:
The mansion. The madness. The maniac. No escape. The townsfolk have always been wary of the Butler mansion - a creepy old haunted house that sits high above the town. So when the grandson of the man who built it arrives to sell it off, people couldn't be happier. But someone has other plans - someone who hides in the house, listening, watching and waiting. Soon people start to die. A couple are axed to death in their bed. A police officer is murdered with a shovel. Has a ghost from the past returned to haunt the town - is it an escaped psycho from the local sanatorium...?

4 star film, 1 star picture quality - Silent Night, Bloody Night review by LC

Spoiler Alert

This is a nicely effective and moody horror chiller, and whilst clearly low budget appears to be well directed, in a similar vein to the earlier films of George Romero. Unfortunately the picture quality on the DVD currently available to rent here is appalling, and gets so bad during some of the darker scenes it's almost impossible to see what's occuring on screen. Should this ever get a remaster or blu ray update I'd strongly recommend checking it out, but until then it's going to take a determined viewer to get through.

Worst picture quality ever seen on a DVD - Silent Night, Bloody Night review by Brownie

Spoiler Alert

I've seen a few bad quality picture DVD's but this one is a new high (or low). The picture is so bad it's barely watchable. Even a 7th generation copied VHS would beat this for picture quality. Oh, the film itself? I only got 20 mins in before I had to stop watching, the picture quality was hurting my eyes.
