A masterclass in shy awkwardness with just enough humour to entertain from both Nighy and MacDonald. Possibly not the best work of either of them or indeed of Curtis's but a pleasant rom-com, predictable but amusing.
I wasn't sure about this film but it was surprisingly good. Not overly dramatic but very thought provoking and a lovely but not sickly love story behind it. Bill Nighy is great as always whichis one of the reasons I thought I would try it.
To get the pitch right for a romantic comedy means that it should have an edge, and, in theory there is plenty of this here - but it is almost impossible to believe that a civil sercant will invite somebody, on a second date, to a high-level global conference in Iceland.
