Ricky Gervais is his usual self in this simple plot movie. Not hilarious but funny and mad me smile. Everyone tells the truth even when it hurts and when Ricky tells the firts ever lie and benefits from it he reaslises it can be life changing. If only it was so simple! In the end he realsies he has to be honest and then everyone lives happily ever after.
I'm a fan of 'The Office', 'Extras' and really enjoyed Gervais in 'Ghost Town' although 'The Invention Of Lying' is a real let down. The first half of the film feels quite awkward and unrehearsed and it's not until the 40 minute mark that the film settles down into what feels like a more polished movie. The story in parts is fairly good, though it's underdeveloped, packed full of clichés and features too many rehashed Gervais 'little fat man with a pug nose' jokes. If you're a Ricky Gervais fan then you'll want to see it, though this is a film which is unlikely to win him any new fans.
Disappointed with another predictable Gervais movie. He seems incapable of breaking free from playing similar characters. Did not find this very comical and would not recommend this if you need a laugh.
