Set one Christmas Day, this black comedy explores the strained relationship between a father (Peter Mullan) and his 20-year-old son. Featuring music by Gruff Rhys.

Man in Fear (2011)
Anthony Fox (Luke Treadaway) is a very paranoid man. Fleeing a coach crash, he wanders the streets; he's bloodied and desperate and when asked by a policeman why people would be trying to kill him, he cryptically replies: 'Art'.

A Gun for George (2011)
Terry Finch - a man alone. Forgotten author of The Reprisalizer, Britain's toughest pulp paperback vigilante, Finch pens tall tales of brute force and rough justice from his isolated caravan until fact and fiction start to blur.

The Ellington Kid (2012)

Mary (Judi Dench) and Linda (Penny Ryder) spend an afternoon discussing the pleasures, pitfalls and problems with using social networking to try and woo the local choirmaster Trevor (Philip Jackson).

Truly uninspiring - The Joy of Six: Short Films review by AS

Spoiler Alert

I was really looking forward to this as I often end up with just 30 mins at the end of my day -- not enough for a feature film, but enough for a short one. But these were all really just one big waste of my time despite brand name actors. Perhaps this is just telling about how difficult the format is, but none of these was worth a second thought. Let alone a second viewing...

Wonderful - The Joy of Six: Short Films review by YR

I totally disagree with the other reviewer. I really enjoyed these short films. They are all so different from each other, but so well done. There's one or two well-known actors in here (Judi Dench, Tim Healy, Tom Hiddleston, Matt Holness...), but most of the actors were new to me. What I love about short films is that they create a whole universe within just a few minutes of running time. These six films had scenes of beauty, moments of comedy, drama, adventure, horror... I was totally engrossed. I watched them all in one sitting, but that did lead to a lot of abrupt changes in mood during the viewing experience. You could also watch all six films at different times if you don't want to quickly change your mood with every film. Overall, I would highly recommended this collection of six films... especially if you appreciate the beauty of short films.
