This movie gave an interesting insiders/outsiders view of the French Revolution as seen through the eyes of a British woman with royal French connections. Since she was as a royalist and the Duke was not it is able to show the two sides of the struggle while at the same time provides a unique insight into how over time the Revolution turned against the man that was it's strongest asset in the beginning.
An excellent, and human, overview of this historical event.
This film tells an interesting and thoughtful (and true) story of a Scottish lady loyal to the royalists during the French revolution. Not just a costume drama but also a fasticinating insight into French politics during this time and a suspenceful storyline. Great characterisations and good use of digital technology which made paintings come to life - surprisingly so for an Eric Rohmer film which are normally naturalistic and lacking in special effects. Well worth watching.
