Synopsis:
When his suspicions are raised by a series of gruesome, yet seemingly unrelated deaths, Adrian asks his friend, retired MT5 agent Anthony Gethryn (George C. Scott), to solve the unfolding mystery of a secret list bearing the names of the deceased. When Messenger is himself killed, it transpires that a sinister villain is using a variety disguises and schemes to bump off the eleven names on the list. Always seemingly one step ahead of the wily Gethryn, this criminal mastermind's plot is about to come to its disastrous and devilish conclusion as the fate of the name at the bottom of the list draws ever nearer.

Interesting ... - The List of Adrian Messenger review by Dr Waerdnotte

Spoiler Alert

Interesting mid-period Huston. Anchored by a decent performance from George C. Scott, the story has an implausible plot and, even though it is the 1960s, is based around a very American idea of England. Essentially a whodunnit, even though we know whodunnit pretty early on, most of the film is built around the various disguises of the character played by Kirk Douglas. Other A list celebs are revealed at the end as heavily disguised small part characters, which was probably exciting in 1960 but loses its appeal pretty early on. Interesting score by Jerry Goldsmith, but otherwise there is very little to recommend. Purely for John Huston completists
