- Adapted from Denis Diderot's eponymous novel, 'The Nun' tells lathe story of a woman trying to resist imposed religious values, revealing the dehumanizing effect of cloistered life. Sent to a convent against her will, Suzanne (Pauline Etienne), a young nun finds herself taunted by her fellow Sisters and subjected to sadistic punishments after breaking her vows. Taken in by a kindly Mother Superior (Isabelle Huppert), she soon finds that her affection comes at a price, but despite her suffering, Suzanne refuses to accept her fate and her desire for freedom never diminishes.

Faithful to the book - The Nun review by CSF
A much better film than I expected. The book, written shortly before the French Revolution, announces the Big Change coming. I didn't expect the ending either, I thought it would have bee more conventional. The actors are sober and play in the right mode, the story is exciting as you feel for the heroine all the time. One must read the book. It is one of these women's treatment that makes me very anti scarf for the Muslim women. Rebellious women are still seen as devilish in some part of our world.
