Synopsis:
A gripping and suspenseful series based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name. 'The Outsider' follows a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of an 11-year-old boy, whose body is found mutilated in the Georgia woods. Eyewitnesses and physical evidence all point to popular high school teacher Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman). But police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) is baffled by the emergence of contradictory evidence and, in an attempt to explain the unexplainable, brings in an unorthodox private investigator with uncanny abilities.
A binge-worthy detective story and tense psychological thriller, 'The Outsider' meticulously reveals a spine-chilling series of twists as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case.

Almost 5 stars - The Outsider review by TH

Spoiler Alert
07/08/2020

I'm a big fan of Stephen King so was expecting good things and wasn't let down. Similar in style to recent shows like Sharp Objects and True Detective. This is not a show that's action packed throughout (last episode aside) but does well to create atmosphere and suspense with fleshed out characters.

It starts off similar to True Detective with the investigation side before going down the IT route of supernatural.

Ben Mendelssohn (very underrated actor) is great in the lead role as is Cynthia Enrivo who is the more engaging character.

Overall a very good show that loses 1 star as a couple of episodes in the middle didnt move the story on much and could if been edited down a bit to 1 episode.

Great premise, but drags on - The Outsider review by BS

Spoiler Alert

The first episode was fantastic, looked like a we were going to have a real mystery thriller on our hands. But by the 4th and 5th episode it's a very simple plodding plot. The team are trying to find a supernatural creature that you ultimately learn nothing about in the end. Rather disappointing second-half, like a bad X-Files episode.
