Nestled in the mountains somewhere between North Africa and the Middle East, the women of one village are on strike. Absolutely Wonderful, gorgeous film! - The Source review by TB

Spoiler Alert

This must be one of the most beautiful and rich films ever made. The directing and superb acting to a script that was intelligent and so aware of male/female real life thoughts and history fitted to a landscape and climate that too appears beautiful and yet harsh underneath. To any person remotely interested in viewing a good story or for a story based in modern day Middle East with a changing social times, this you must view; Excellente!

Light on the surface but a very deep film - The Source review by hF

A very enlightening film which although it has a comic playful touch at times is really a profound comment on changing values and attitudes to women in particular as social groups 'modernise' .

Some lovely visuals - never boring - and educational.

I'm glad to have watched this.

Brilliant - The Source review by CW

Spoiler Alert

I totally agree with the glowing reviews. Days later I am still thinking about The Source. A few months ago I saw Insyriated which scorched through my mind. I thought the role of the fierce mother who would do anything to save her fairy was brilliantly played by the actress Hiam Abbas so I wanted to see her again. In The Source she plays a mother who does not like her daughter in law because the young woman questions the old traditions that make the women subservient to their husbands. The issue is water that the women have to haul each day from the pipe to the village. She starts a love strike so the story is a bit of an homage to Lysistratta ( spelling?). Scenery harsh and beautiful. The women singing and dancing is mesmerising. The young woman who can read also questions the misinterpretation of the Koran by the Inman. Powerful, poignant, heart wrenching.
