When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck (Stephen Dillane) and Elise Wassermann (Clémence Poésy) are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. However, as the case takes a surreal turn, a series of elaborate killings force the French and British police into uneasy partnership. Despite cultural divides, they find common ground in the race to stop a serial killer who has no boundaries. Copycat film of the Scandinavian epic 'The Bridge' - The Tunnel: Series 1 review by hF
I perhaps shouldn't review this as I only watched 20 minutes. It was 20 minutes wasted. I wanted to watch it as it is based on the same 'plot-line' apparently as the Scandinavian masterpiece The Bridge which has enthralled me.
This is a 'cheap' copy based in the channel tunnel with French / English detectives having to work together and dealing (surprise surprise) with issues of immigration - poorly acted, everything copied (from the female non-communicative detective changing her jumper in the office - to the car she drives) - Wikipedia classes it as a remake. There is evidently a Mexican / US series as a 'remake' too.
As I can understand both English and French (there are subtitles as well) it would have been 'easier' to watch as when watching the Scandinavian series at times I find it difficult to tell whether parts of the plot are set in Denmark or Sweden, as everything has to be read via subtitles. a Scandinavian person probably would speak one or both of the languages.
Don't waste your film club membership quota on this one!!

Why would you copy the Bridge? A Danish/Swedish masterpiece which I would whole-heartedly recommend to anyone. This is a French/English version with considerably less humour and drama. A poor copy.

Not too bad - The Tunnel: Series 1 review by RD
It's a brave project to clone the stunning Scandinavian series based on the Denmark to Sweden bridge, copied across to the channel tunnel. Some amount of diversion from the original would have stopped direct comparisons, but we have a lead character as a blonde with social problems and a penchant for sudden sex, driving her own Porsche. The male lead is a family man with a recent vasectomy and a dysfunctional home life. All this is identical to The Bridge.
It's actually a half decent thriller series, up to general UK standards and better than some, but after enjoying The Bridge, there's a sad feeling of deja-view throughout this.
The title music is awful and some of the dialogue is undecipherable.
