OK, so they might have stretched the history a bit but it was an enjoyable series, well made, lavish costumes and period settings and well acted. I especially enjoyed the fact that it was free of foul language and gratuitous nudity and sex - just one brief love scene in episode 6. Too often these days it's deemed necessary to assault the eyes and ears of the audience to get attention so it was refreshing to be able to enjoy a well produced period drama like this one. Just don't take it as a definitive statement of historical fact.
Quite a well made series but the plot strays so far from recorded history that it ends up becoming rather naff.
Lovely customs and scenery, good story line and acting. Sure it's true to the book (not read and won't now I know its make believe !) , but not historically factual. Does it matter ? It did make us look up the period. Was disappointed by the twisting of history......
