Synopsis:
The village of San Hilario used to make its living from its wonderful cemetery and the skill and talent of its inhabitants to organise and undertake the most wonderful funerals. People came to San Hilario to die with panache and style. But the need for quick funerals and the pace of modern life in general meant that the people of San Hilario have almost run out of work. For that very reason, the village keenly awaits the arrival of German Cortes, a new client who wants to spend his last days in the village. His arrival will allow the inhabitants of San Hilario to pull out all the stops as never before, and therefore probably save the business, and the village itself.
But things get somewhat complicated when German dies before reaching his destination, and the good people of San Hilario end up welcoming a fugitive by mistake...

Funeral antics. - To Die in San Hilario review by DF

Spoiler Alert
07/01/2016

A low-key pleasant movie with a cast of village characters in a Spanish village long lost to the outside world. The movie has no pretentions to be a classic or arty. It works it way through a story of a gangster on the run, mistaken identities, an arranged funeral and quirky characters with strange hang-ups; a woman in love with the dying, a doubting priest, an artist secretly painting the woman across the street, but everyone proud of the village's funeral expertise. No Oscars, but enjoyable.
