Accents better than most - Veronica Guerin review by JD
I'm no Irishman but Blanchett's accent wavered. Often close but rarely spot on. Better than Brad Pitt's in Snatch (and much better than his Austrian accent in 7 years in Tibet). Why spoil a film by trying to copy the accent? Some of the drug scenes are a bit overdone and unconvincing. The 18 certificate is well earned for sickening violence. Blanchett's acting is of course otherwise awesome and it is easy to see the huge courage of the journalist the the film is devoted to. There cannot be many who would stand up against the drug barons with so much to lose. Worth watching for historical importance and thrilling performances.

Excellent film based on true story of a heroic journalist - Veronica Guerin review by CP Customer
Cate Blanchett is absolutely superb as feisty, dogmatic Irish journalist, Veronica Guerin. Successful, but unpopular with the 'literary set' in Dublin, she sets out to expose the drug barons who seem to be taking over the city. She is full of life and a committed wife and mother, as well as a conscientious political journalist. Threats and physical attacks make her even more determined and she unites the community to rid itself of the pushers and dealers. The character of Veronica is strong and courageous and you can't help but be full of admiration for what she did. Poignant, touching and very well written.
