Candy Morrison's life is safe and predictable. She is a gentle, kind person and an outstanding wife and mother. But underneath her charming exterior lies a terrifying hotbed of unrest. A disturbing incident way back in her past has left emotional scars that are buried deep within her mind. Bored with her everyday life, Candy searches for excitement and soon finds herself drawn into a passionate affair with Stan Blankenship, a close friend of her husband. But their relationship dies quickly. A few weeks later Stan's wife, Peggy, is found brutally murdered, axon to death with 33 blows to her body. The town of Lucas is ripped apart.
