A Perfect Getaway tries to be clever with its formula and various twists, throwing red herrings at you from the off, as each couple debates who the murderers could be. Backpackers in the wilderness haunted by killers unknown is not the most original premise to sell a film. Even though the backdrop is the beautiful Pacific Ocean, there’s little else to demand your interest. Most viewers will spot the guilty culprits early on and whether you can maintain interest for the distant conclusion to arrive is a true test of patience. This really needed some editing and why Twohy shoots flashback sequences in a stark blue style that dominated Cameron’s Terminator 2 I’ll never know. The characters are clichéd and you just don’t care about their fate or justification. This went straight to DVD for a good reason.
