1865: A family, newly liberated from the clutches of American slavery, finds itself the new owner of a plot of land. Anxious to begin their new life as free people, they quickly realize much more than the bitter taste of white supremacy has followed them to this new home. An unexplainable presence begins to make itself known to each of the family members as Lula (Imani Hakim), the eldest daughter, finds herself forced to take matters into her own hands in order to keep her family from harm. She sets off on a perilous and unrelenting journey to answer: Why this farm? Why this curse? Why them?
