Although getting on a bit this film still has the power to scare. The muted film stock and lack of widescreen add to the feeling of timelessness but it's the cinematography that gives the film its edge. Long lingering shots of the remote Norfolk countryside coupled with the haunting soundtrack create a sense of unease which builds throughout. Many a modern horror filmmaker could take a lesson from Lawrence Gordon Clark on how to evoke emotion and threat on the screen.
