It's summer 1931, and Adalen, Sweden, seems to slumber in its pastoral setting. But the reason for the calm is ominous: The town's paper mill has shut down because of a labor strike. Framed around the workers' revolt that toppled Sweden's conservative government, this Oscar-nominated drama is told from the view of a factory worker's son (Peter Schildt) who impregnates the plant manager's daughter (Marie De Geer) as violence begins to unfold.
