This film depicts the life of Albert Schweitzer - doctor, theologian, author and musician - who conducts humanitarian works in Africa. Growing up on the French-German border, the son of a Lutheran pastor, the sensitive Albert adopts a non-violence approach to life before the age of 10. He later studies theology and music and writes numerous books. At 30, he is affected by the health plight in Africa and studies medicine, leading to a missionary hospital and, in due course, the Nobel Prize.
