The ballet Giselle had it's world premiere on June 28th 1841 at the Opera de Paris. The work has a very special significance within the Ballet Nacional de Cuba's repertory as it was with this ballet and with Alicia Alonso's unique interpretation of the role that Cuba first gained a place in the international world of dance. Thank's to Alonso's interpretation and also to her own choreographic version of Giselle a new order of values was set for this ballet which represents the essence and the apotheosis of the dance from an entire era.
