Highly unusual and very well-acted drama/thriller about Bobby (Christian Bale), a slightly retarded young man who following the death of his mother is left housebound at the mercy of his brutal stepfather Bernard De Winter (Daniel Benzali), who wants Bobby's inheritance signed over to him, and will do anything to get it. However what seems like a straightforward plot for a thriller totally veers off into another dimension altogether when Bobby goes on the run and by chance encounters the mysterious Mr. Summers (John Hurt), an eccentric loner who spends his days giving all the little animals who have been killed by the hand of man, a decent burial along the roadside. For the first time Bobby finds a kindred spirit and briefly discovers happiness, but with his stepfather still hunting him, how long will it last. - Actors:
