Maria, disillusioned by her experience with men and saddled with an unsatisfying job, finds that her only solace lies in drink. Her mother leads a simple life in the country that could not be more different. But unexpected circumstances mean that Maria has to share her city apartment with her mother and, despite the gulf between the two women, glimmers of understanding and hope for the future begin to emerge.
