The Celts What was life like for an Ancient Celt? By using dramatic reenactments we see how tough, wild and fearless this group of ancient warriors was. Each Celtic tribe was led by a king and though they were loosely joined by custom, language and belief, and clan fought clan, they united together in times of war, fighting with swords and spears. They were invincible and death held no fear for them.
The Highlanders In the Scottish Highlands, clan fights clan and the only thing that unites them is hatred of the English. On Midsummer Day, 1314, the exiled Scottish king, Robert the Bruce, leads an army of clans against a mightier English force at the Battle of Bannockburn. Scottish success depends on the pike men with their 14-foot-long pikes and they do not fail in their mission. Bruce has driven the English from Scotland and secures his position as king in what became the greatest victory in the history of Scotland.
Irish Warriors of the Emerald isle In 1000AD, Ireland was a country being overrun by pagans from the North, the Vikings. It was also a time when it was at war with itself. Brian Boru, the great Irish warrior, realised that while the Irish fought one another, they would never drive the Vikings out. Under his rule, he united Ireland through diplomacy as well as warfare and the country experienced peace and prosperity. But his former enemies were just biding their time and stopped him at the spectacular Battle of Clontarf.
