Synopsis:
Performance of Giordano's opera by the Metropolitan Opera, conducted by James Levine. Chénier is a French revolutionary poet who pines for the beautiful Maddalena. However, he has a jealous rival in the form of servant-turned-revolutionary Gérard, who sets about plotting Chénier's downfall. Performers include Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Guleghina and Juan Pons.
