There was no question of a seven year itch for Michael Dunlop as he set about maintaining his grip on the Armoy Race of Legends in 2017. The heir to the Dunlop racing dynasty did his father and uncle proud as he put his seventh consecutive trophy on the mantelpiece. It wasn t just Michael who was flying the flag for Ballymoney s most famous family at the 2017 edition of the increasingly popular Armoy Road Races; Michael s brother William was on hand to push him hard and Gary kept the family connection with two-strokes alive. That s not to say the Dunlop connection dominated the meeting; Derek McGee continued his run of fine form with a string of great rides to capture the Man of the Meeting title and Joe Loughlin was very impressive as he took the Junior prize. The Armoy Road Race has cemented its place as a must-do both for fans and riders, and watching the official review you ll see why. The course is a perfect blend of narrow roads, tight corners, fast bends and the obligatory jump and with the stars of today s golden age of racing on incredible machinery it makes for truly entertaining racing.
