1943. Left by his wife twenty years earlier, Léon Duchemin (Bourvil) runs a restaurant in a small Norman town with his sister Maria (Sophie Desmarets) and his daughter Juliette (Sara Franchetti). The cohabitation with the German occupier has peaceful paces until the parachuting of an allied officer, Jeff (Peter McEnery), son of an Anglican bishop, who moved to Leon and courted Juliet. Requested by the Kommandantur - following a misunderstanding - for painting, Leon unintentionally steals the secret plans of the fortifications of the "Atlantic Wall" and a new weapon, the V1 and V2. He shares his discovery with Jeff, who takes him to England with Commander Perry. Lieutenant Friedrich (Pino Caruso), Juliette's unfortunate lover, told him during a drinking bout that the field marshal was in no hurry to return to Germany as soon as possible to meet his wife, at the provided, however, that he can offer him a pair of shoes...in antelope. The departure of Rommel makes unnecessary the risks of an attack. Wanting to protect his future son-in-law (who calls him "Pretty Daddy!"), Leon steals a stuffed antelope that Totor, a German non-commissioned officer, brought back from Libya, and entrusts it to the shoemaker to draw a pair of shoes. Giving it to Rommel upon arrival, he delays his entry into the office and, without realizing it, saves his life. Léon is once again embarked by Jeff to England, protected in their flight by their friend Armand. It will not be for long...
