Fighters Three In World War II, The United States with its technological skill and industrial might, designed and manufactured many different fighting aircraft. In the ruthless test of battle certain designs emerged supreme and became fighting legends. These were the Fighters Three.
Lockheed P-38 Lighting This unique twin-boom design-nickname "The fork-tailed devil" by the Germans - gave a new meaning to the concept of interceptor. Its speed, rate of climb, range and firepower transformed aerial combat.
Republic P-47 Thunderbolt This was a very mean machine. Massive, heavy, high powered and packing a mighty punch, it was produced in greater numbers than any other American fighter - before or since. Capable of taking great punishment and giving more in return. It served with distinction in many roles, but particularly in ground attack.
North American Mustang This was considered by many as the WWII fighter aircraft par excellence. A sleek and beautiful aircraft, with long range and great "dog' fighting" capability, it proved invaluable as an escort fighter in both European and Pacific campaigns.
All three fighting aircraft are shown in dramatic action detail - much of it in colour - in this fascinating DVD. View it and relive the glory days of the America's Best WWII Fighters.
