- Edward G. Robinson dominates this film as Louis the owner of a Bar Saloon in the 1850's red light district of San Francisco (The Barbary Coast). A cast of Hollywood regulars support Robinson in this rip-roaring tale of the saloons of the California Gold Rush. Joel McCrea, Walter Brennan, Brian Donlevy and Miriam Hopkins as "the Swan". The climax is a thrilling chase through the goldfields as Edward G. Robinson goes after McCrea and Hopkins in this classic tale of love triangles, man's greed and inhumanity and stunning sets created with attention to detail.
