"Battlefield Britain" is a powerful and innovative BBC series spanning nearly 2,000 bloody and turbulent years of battles fought on British soil. Peter and Dan Snow, father and son historians, travel to the actual battle sites and use computer generated images woven together with dramatic re-enactments to make history come alive. From Boudicca to the Battle of Britain, they reveal what it was like to be an ordinary soldier on the front line, where the fighting was at its fiercest.
Boudicca's Revolt - 61AD Boudicca is one of Britain's greatest heroines, a freedom fighter who rebelled against the Roman government - and very nearly changed the course of history. The Roman Conquest of Britain began in AD 43. It was a time when Britain was split into tribes, one of which was the Iceni of East Anglia. The Iceni were one of the few tribes the Romans allowed to keep their lands and govern themselves. However, when King Prasutagus died in AD 60, the Romans decided to seize the throne. They sacked the Iceni's capital at Thetford, publicly whipped his wife Queen Boudicca and raped her two young daughters. Seeking revenge for her people, her family and all oppressed Britons, this proud warrior Queen led a bloody revolt against the Romans. London was burned to the ground and numerous Romans slaughtered before Boudicca took on the full, prepared might of the Legions at Mancetter.
