- Part of the documentary series looking at the most significant battles of the Second World War. This volume traces the course of the savage fighting in the Balkans in the latter half of the conflict. After the uprising by the Romanians against their fascist leader Antonescu, the Soviet army moved swiftly to capture Bucharest and the vital Ploesti oilfields. With Bulgaria and Hungary swiftly falling to the Soviets, the Germans launched a grim defensive campaign in Yugoslavia, with violent retribution met out against the partisan groups who had resisted them. Includes informative graphics of the weaponry used by both sides, as well as rare archive footage.
