Synopsis:
This luxury Belcea Quartet Box brings a new high-definition audiovisual reference recording of Beethoven's Complete String Quartets! Since 2006 the only available recording was Alan Berg's string quartets released only on DVD in 4:3 format. With this edition, released on occasion of 20th anniversary of Belcea Quartet, EuroArts fills a niche for a high definition quality audiovisual production of Beethoven's String Quartets available both on DVD and Blu-ray The ensemble embarked on the complete cycle of Beethoven string quartets, playing the whole program within twelve days, recorded at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2012, each concert featuring one work from the early, middle and late quartet, including perhaps the most exciting of all works by Beethoven: the op.133, the 'Grosse Fuge' which he wrote as the finale of the quartet op.130. 'This music, just sounds forever ' avant-garde ', I think in a way that perhaps no music written after the 'Grosse Fuge' manages to sound to this day' ,' explains viola player Krzysztof Chorzelski of the Belcea Quartet. In this recording Belcea Quartet performs the 'Grosse Fuge' in one piece with op.130, which makes this performance even more thrilling. This extraordinary edition released in a luxury hinged lid box include not only complete recording of String Quartets by Belcea Quartet from Vienna Konzerthaus but also a 45- minute bonus documentary 'On the Paths of the Beethoven String Quartets' which brings us closer to the ensemble's reflections both on Beethoven's quartets and on this unique project.
