The legendary Benny Carter, the great alto sax player, is surrounded here by a true All-Star group consisted of Nat Adderley on trumpet, Red Norvo on vibraphone, Horace Parlan on piano, Red Mitchell on bass and Ronnie Gardiner on drums. It is a memorable programme of standards from the Great American songbook including Nat Adderley singing his own classic jazz composition "Work Song". Carter was a major figure in jazz from the 1930s to the 1990s and was recognized as such by other jazz musicians who called him "King". In 1958, he performed with Billie Holiday at the legendary Monterey Jazz Festival and has also collaborated with other jazz giants, including Fats Waller, Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Phil Woods and Marian McPartlan
