Bertie and Elizabeth provides an affectionate portrait of the marriage of George VI, known to his family and friends as Bertie, and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, who became his consort, Queen Elizabeth, and later the Queen Mother. It is a wonderful portrayal of their relationship from their courtship and marriage, Bertie's accession to the throne after the abdication of his older brother, Edward VIII, and their redefinition of the role of the monarchy during the Second World War, to Bertie's tragically early death in 1952. Elizabeth was to survive him by just over fifty years.
