Chandra's (Randhir Kapoor) mission in life is to get married but the dominating influence of Mars in his horoscope has made this task a difficult one. Through his friend, Gafoor (Deven Verma), Chandra gets a job in a theatre where his stage performance attracts the attention of Asha (Poonam Dhillon), who promptly falls in love with him. But the obstacle in this path of true love is Asha's father, Colonel Mangal Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a retired army officer, who will never allow his daughter to marry a civilian and has plans for Asha to marry the son of his friend, Colonel Hari. So off he goes to Kashmir to fix the alliance with Captain, but not before Asha pours out her predicament to him. A sympathetic Captain agrees to "refuse" to marry Asha and lets Chandra masquerade as him. What follows is a rip-roaring comedy of errors full of mistaken identities, impersonations and delightful subterfuges.
