After the success of Wolf Creek I expected more Aussie exploitation films to arise given their popularity in the 70's. Black Water is a low budget affair, with a trio of friends venturing out into the great wilderness to enjoy Australia outside a suburban environment. A fishing trip soon goes horribly wrong with only the trees providing shelter from the local menace. The croc is well done with limited appearances upping the tempo in a film that badly needs pacing. The majority of events take place on one location and almost one angle. This can work if the script and director provide an element of inventiveness, yet here they've just tried to adapt the best bits from Jaws. Without question its a great template, but we've seen most of this before, being executed to a far higher and memorable standard.
