2011/12 proved to be another amazing season, that nearly, oh so nearly, ended with an immediate return to the Premier League. Denied, at the last, in a game Blackpool definitely deserved to win. Ian Holloway s new team provided some fantastic entertainment, including the 5-0 thrashings of Leeds United and Bristol City, the derby day demolition of Burnley and the defeat of Southampton at Bloomfield Road live on television for all the country to see. Matt Gilks was, at times, unbeatable. Matty Phillips and Tom Ince terrorised defences up and down the land, while the master finisher, Kevin Phillips, scored 17 times to show his class and pedigree. On their return to Wembley, 30,000 tangerine clad supporters saw The Seasiders come within a whisker of securing their place back at the top table of English football. Heartbreak yes, but a performance that made every fan so very proud.
