1985. Irishman Brian Keenan is a teacher living and working in the war-torn city of Beirut. One day, without warning, a gang of armed men bundle Keenan into the boot of a car and take him to a secret location where he's thrown into a cramped metal cell. Isolated for months, tormented by the muffled sounds of torture and gunshots, Keenan is suddenly dragged from his prison, blindfolded and driven to a new hellhole - only this time he is not alone. Already incarcerated is another hostage - Englishman John McCarthy. The captives could not be more different. But as each wrestles with his own private demons, they form an unlikely friendship, giving them the strength they need to survive.
