Blitzkrieg (Lightning War) was the Nazi military tactic which utilised a massed force of tanks, infantry, artillery, engineers and air power to concentrate overwhelming force at high speed in order to smash through enemy lines. From the invasion of Poland to the fall of France, the Nazis used this masterful and overwhelming tactic to break through enemy lines, and through constant motion this tactic (which still influences many ground assaults today, such as the U.S. 'shock and awe' campaign in the Middle East) kept the enemy off balance with little time to resist or defend before the advancing force had moved on.
