Synopsis:
150 musicians from Cuba, Norway, Poland, Britain, Syria, Germany, Bulgaria and the USA to contribute their "spirits of music" to an unusual concert event uniting classical and world music. Bobby McFerrin stands like no other for the reconciliation of two musical worlds that are not so different from one another as they might seem. Nigel McFerrin plays many parts, excelling in all of them. Alongside his remarkable solo improvisations he brought a charming and unconventional manner to his conducting of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of Germany's most renowned orchestral ensembles. The British violinist Nigel Kennedy is just as much at home with pop or jazz as with the classics and joins McFerrin in a combined jazz improvisation to mark a highlight of the evening. McFerrin and the evening's world music ensembles, The Kuumba Singers present another highlight of the evening, with picking up the traditions of African folk songs, spirituals and gospel.
