There is a hedge that rims across the bottom of the field towards the stream. It looks just like an ordinary hedge. But come a little closer - there are small front doors half hidden in the tangled roots, and little curtained windows in the leafy trunks. Groups of mice can be glimpsed in the long grass playing and going about their everyday business! 'Brambly Hedge' evokes a lost way of life - warm, cosy and safe, but not without it's humour and drama.
