Number 4468 Mallard is a LNER Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built at Doncaster, England in 1938. While in other respects a relatively typical member of its class, it is historically significant for being the holder of the official world speed record for steam locomotives of 125.88 mph the highest speed was recorded at milepost 90 1/4, between Little Bytham and Essendine on the 3 July 1938. It was restored to working order in the 1980s, Mallard is now part of the National Collection at the United Kingdom's National Railway Museum in York.
