Their old friend Elmo has returned from Australia a wealthy man of vision, several visions really, one of which is the opening of Elmo Putney's Wine Bar. Veronica's spoiled daughter Lesley - finding herself between jobs and boyfriends - starts work there as the most unhappy hostess to ever glare at a customer.
