- By The Sword Divided is a British Period Drama series about a fictional family and how their lives are influenced and changed by the English Civil War and the years that followed it. The series follows the Lacey family, a family full of opinion with some supporting the Loyalists and some the Parliamentarians. As the war continues their allegiances shift and things change as each family member goes his own way, finding themselves wrapped up in an England at war, something that may cost some of them their lives.
