Citizen Poet. Run of the Year (2012)

Vera Krichevskaya directs this documentary exploring the role the political satire programme 'Citizen Poet' played in shaping topical debate in Russia. The brainchild of producer Andrei Vasilyev,writer Dmitry Bykov and actor Mikhail Yefremov,'Citizen Poet' featured parodies of Russian literary classics and poked fun at prominent politicians. The programme was removed from the air when the Dozhd TV station blanched at the prospect of screening an episode that sharply criticised Vladimir Putin,but continued to have an influence through live performances and the internet.
